About the song: In the fall of 2008, London was hit by a snowstorm prior to Hallowe’en. The leaves had not yet fallen, and the weight of the snow took down many trees; an unsightly and unfortunate blow to the “forest” city. Little more than a week later, I found myself at Victoria Park in downtown London on a brilliant, sunny day. Holiday decorations had already been erected in the park, while evidence of the earlier storm was obvious by way of sheered branches on many of the colourful trees. Decked out in a shirt and tie, I ate lunch in the sun that November day; witness to a strange and brilliant collision of circumstances that I knew would turn into a song.

A few years ago, I wrote a blog called “Sunny Day in November Deconstructed.” It describes the creation of this song in detail. You can read it by clicking HERE.

Lyrics:

All the ghosts have left the stage
Curtain call – now’s the time
If you’ve got anything to say

Summer’s touch slips away
But for one more day
This one last day

So for all those days when the rain comes down
We’ll dream of a sunny day in November
All the days are coming now
We’ll dream of a sun that won’t surrender
Shadows lurk, colours fade
Life will spin around us just the same
Does this sunny day in November shine in vain?

A chorus grand, a season sings
In sharp relief to all the monotone
The coming winter brings

The numbing chill, the early dark
Being held at bay
This one last day

So for all those days when the rain comes down
We’ll dream of a sunny day in November
All the days are coming now
We’ll dream of a sun that won’t surrender
Shadows lurk, colours fade
Life will spin around us just the same
Does this sunny day in November shine in vain?
