About the song: In 2007 I had the great fortune of playing some shows with a good friend by the name of Dave Cook. I wrote this song first as a progression of chords to suit his lead guitar style. For weeks, the song went without lyrics, as I couldn’t figure what it was about, until one day at the local gym when a friendly 70-something retired South Korean friend of mine described his day to me this way: “Every day the same. No plans. I am a no schedule man.” No schedule man. I knew that was it. In my head, I had the whole thing written before I got home.
Lyrics:
I am a no schedule man – No plan is all part of the plan
Clear the calendar whenever I can – A world in the palm of my hand
Blue jeans, ball cap – ready to roll … All else beyond my control
My letterhead’s a cocktail napkin … rings around the ink
All day, all play
All clear all the way
I’ll get there when I get there
If I get there at all
Because I am a no schedule guy – Maybe you should give it a try
My limit is away in the sky – without wings, it gets a little bit tougher to fly
Your cell phone, broadband, tangled ways … Leave me in a cold robotic haze
My email address is a mailboat … In the next port town
All day, all play
All clear all the way
I’ll get there when I get there
If I get there at all
I am the waves and tide and wind, Cause I roll in, then out again
Passing with nomadic chagrin
To the next great adventure
If I get there at all
Yeah I am no schedule dude – And I don’t mean to intrude
On your political feud – Or your rigid, ragged mood
Life’s too short, then I’ll be gone – And you will too as time moves on
My handshake is my business card … no appointments please
All day, all play
All clear all the way
I’ll get there when I get there
If I get there at all
